Abstract: Nowadays, PLM systems take a major place in the product development process. PLM implementation through IT environment is a key strategy for collaborative definition and management of product data and knowledge. In order to improve product cost and quality, to reduce time to market, companies and their partners need to exchange and share their data effectively. The aim of the paper is to provide a literature review of research works developed for data and information exchange and sharing between CAD and CAE systems such as implemented in the current PLM strategy. Then, the paper proposes a survey of data exchange protocols and standards. Finally, a more comprehensive approach for software interoperability and data exchange and sharing will be developed.
